2 charged with killing businessman after failed extortion bid
Ride-hailing driver and unemployed man alleged to have committed offence near cliff in Hulu Langat, Selangor, last month.
KAJANG: A ride-hailing driver and an unemployed man were charged in the magistrates’ court here today with the murder of a businessman last month.
Both accused were charged with a common intention to commit murder under Section 302 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code.
If convicted, they face the death penalty.
Devan Jayasimhan, 41, and Hariharan Silvam, 22, confirmed that they understood the charge after it was read out by an interpreter before magistrate Nik Siti Norazlini Nik Mohamed Faiz.
No plea was recorded from either accused as the case falls within the jurisdiction of the High Court.
They are alleged to have killed Mohamed Usman Chan Bacha, 41, after a failed extortion attempt. Reports had said Usman owned a chain of clinics.
The murder is alleged to have taken place near a steep cliff along Jalan Sungai Tekali in Hulu Langat between 12.45pm on April 26 and 6.40pm on April 28.
The magistrate has fixed June 19 for next mention.
Deputy public prosecutor Norfarhanim Abdul Halim appeared for the prosecution, while lawyer Tan Cheng Yee appeared for the accused.
