Unity govt parties’ Wanita chiefs sign collective resolution
The heads of the various women’s wings want greater participation by women in politics, society and the economy.
KUALA LUMPUR: The heads of the women’s wing in the various parties that make up the unity government have signed a collective resolution in an effort to boost the participation of women in politics, society and the economy.
The resolution, titled “Tekad Wanita Perpaduan”, contains five points. The first being to defend the Federal Constitution to ensure all Malaysians live harmoniously.
Secondly, to ensure more women are included in decision-making positions in the country.
Thirdly, to ensure all women in Malaysia are accorded protection in terms of welfare, education, safety and basic rights.
The fourth point seeks to make women the “main drivers” in developing communities under the government’s “Madani” framework.
Lastly, the resolution is aimed at ensuring women play a role in the nation’s economic growth.
The document was signed by Nooraini Ahmad for Barisan Nasional (BN), Aiman Athirah Sabu (Pakatan Harapan) and Norfaizah Chua (Warisan), as well as representatives from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), at the unity government convention held at the World Trade Centre here.
During her speech, Nooraini said the component parties of the unity government must work together to return the “original spirit of Merdeka” back to the country.
“Party and racial politics steered us away from the original spirit of Malaysia. We must bring this (spirit) back and stand together to bring about change for the people,” she said.
Deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also BN chairman and Umno president, was also present to witness the signing ceremony.
