PH’s Malay reps silent on Malay, Islamic issues, says PAS man
KEPALA BATAS: Penang PAS chief Fauzi Yusoff has lamented that Pakatan Harapan’s Malay assemblymen are not speaking up on Islam and issues concerning the community in the state assembly.
Fauzi, who is contesting for the Sungai Dua seat, called for Malay voters in the state to ensure that their voices are heard. He urged them to do away with electing “jaguh kampung” (village champions).
He said it is not enough for Malay assemblymen to just provide aid to their constituents as they must champion Malay and Islamic issues as well.
“(But) they are silent in the state assembly when it comes to defending the Malays (and) Islam and representing the voice of the Malays,” he said at a ceramah in Kampung Lahar Tiang last night.
“That is why we are seeing zero opposition to whatever projects that the Penang state government is pushing.”
Earlier, Fauzi spoke about the Penang South Reclamation project and “expensive” housing projects, which he said do not benefit the Malays.
The PAS leader was campaigning for Bukhori Ghazali, the Perikatan Nasional candidate for Pinang Tunggal, who is facing PH’s Zainudin Mohamed in a straight fight.
The seat had been held by Umno until PH won it in the 14th general election (GE14) through PKR’s Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman, who later became a deputy chief minister.
PN is contesting all 40 seats in Penang on Aug 12, with PAS contesting in 10 of them.
