Kedah gets RM1.6bil development allocations this year, says Anwar
The prime minister says the sum received by the state this year is much higher when compared to previous years.
PETALING JAYA: Putrajaya has allocated RM1.6 billion for the development of Kedah this year, says Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
He said the sum received by the state this year will be higher than what was provided in previous years.
Kedah also received allocations to fix its dilapidated schools, government clinics and for water supply projects in several districts in the state that deserved federal aid, he added.
The prime minister also shared that there were proposals to bring in more investments to the Kulim Hi-Tech Industrial Park during his maiden visit to China, through which he succeeded in bringing in RM170 billion in investments into the country.
“I would like to assure the rakyat that the government will give full cooperation to speed up the investment process, with the cooperation of the state government and local authorities.
“This cooperation will kickstart a more meaningful development for Kedah,” he said in his speech at the Malaysia Madani Raya Aidilfitri open house at Hotel Raia in Alor Setar.
Anwar said Putrajaya would also consider several other applications for allocations from the state.
“As I said before, whether the state government supports a unity government or not, our responsibility to take care of the rakyat will continue,” he added.
During the tabling of the 2022 budget last year, then finance minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz had announced RM260 million in special allocations for each state.
