Kedah PN info chief denies offering cash in exchange for vote
This comes after a netizen tweeted that Bersatu’s Khairul Anuar Ramli had given money to an elderly woman to vote for Perikatan Nasional.
PETALING JAYA: Kedah Perikatan Nasional (PN) information chief Khairul Anuar Ramli has denied claims that he offered cash to a constituent in “exchange for a vote” at the upcoming state polls.
Earlier, a netizen shared on Twitter that his elderly mother was visited by a group of Bersatu individuals, who handed her an ang pow containing RM50.
“The campaign period hasn’t even started and these people have come to give money. My mother was told to vote for the person on the ang pow packet,” said the netizen.
The netizen also shared pictures of the ang pow packet with Khairul’s face on it. In one photo, the envelope was open with the RM50 note next to it.
Khairul described the Twitter post, which has received over 71,000 views, as a malicious attempt to damage his reputation as a PN leader in Padang Serai.
“Why would I seek votes when it is not yet time to campaign? Plus, nobody knows the candidates that the party will put forward (yet),” the Padang Serai Bersatu chief told FMT.
He admitted to paying a visit to an elderly person who is bedridden but said that it was not out of the ordinary to make such visits.
“It is customary to bring gifts when visiting the sick. So, is it wrong if I offer a small contribution for their well-being?” he added.
Khairul said he will take legal action against those who spread such slanderous and false statements against him.
“It is (also) not right of the person who invited me only to try and trap me using his sick mother,” he said.
Khairul added that he would continue to do good for the people of the Lunas constituency as they know him and what he stands for.
